Belle was proud to be a part of the third Denfair at the beginning of June this year at the Melbourne Convention Centre and it was great to see so many of Australia’s leading architects, interior designers, product designers and retailers supporting the fair. More than 350 design brands including international marques Thonet, Fermob, BD Barcelona, Kettal and Janus et Cie displayed their gorgeous wares in stylishly designed spaces.
Many of Australia’s leading art galleries had a presence at the fair – it was fabulous that Michael Reid Gallery, Gallery 9, Martin Browne Contemporary, Flinders Lane Gallery, Gallerysmith and Kerry Armstrong were there emphasising the importance of art in an interesting and well-conceived interior.
The quality of the exhibitors and the stands was outstanding and a tribute to Thibaud Cau-Cecile and his team’s deft and strict curation.
The Brickworks and Belle teams managed to catch up with lots of people from the design community at a fun drinks party at the Belle Oyster Bar. This convivial space was sponsored by Brickworks and conceived by interior designer Fiona Lynch, who deployed stylish new pieces by Adam Cornish for Cult’s newly launched NAU brand.
We also enjoyed an entertaining lunch on the Janus et Cie stand with guest speakers, Paul Hecker and Hamish Guthrie of Hecker Guthrie and Myles Broad of Rick Eckersley Garden Architecture talking everything from design inspiration to urban vandalism!
Uber-talented industrial designer Adam Goodrum launched his stylish new ‘Trace’ collection for Tait featuring pieces he conjured by evoking sun soaked childhood memories. Artedomus designed an excellent space highlighting the revival of the stone age and looks filtering through from Milan.
Volker Haug received the prize for Best Small Stand at the 2017 Denfair Awards for its luminous presentation of chic sconces and lighting concepts, encased in a prism of simple but striking translucent sheeting.
International designer Jan Kath was on hand to present a new series of his sublime hand-knotted rugs at the Cadrys stand, which exploded traditional motifs with bold hues to electrifying effect.

Super stylist Emma Elizabeth of Local Design devised a series of vignettes to showcase the work of fellow designers such as Dowel Jones, Tom Skeehan and Tom Fereday, enveloped by a bolt of Yves Klein blue textiles from the Kvadrat Maharam collection.
Adam Goodrum also teamed up with textiles house Woven Image, employing the brand’s ‘EchoPanel’ material to create an immersive sensory environment comprising custom lighting designed by Adam alongside Australian outfit Rakumba, as well as a sound element produced with Bang & Olufsen.
Denfair just keeps getting bigger and better each year. We look forward to seeing you there in 2018!
